SWISSÔTEL CHICAGO ANNOUNCES $17.5 MILLION ROOM RENOVATION
(Chicago, IL) –September 14, 2007 – The AAA Four-Diamond Swissôtel Chicago,
known for its breathtaking views, convenient location and renowned architecture, announces today its $17.5 million room renovation plan, which will include upgrades of all existing 632 guest rooms. “These renovations will further exemplify the commitment of Swissôtel Chicago to go above and beyond to meet the needs of our guests through our personalized attention to detail,” stated Thomas Klein, Swissôtel’s regional vice president, The Americas.
Designed by Melanie Swisher and the AIOA team, each renovated room will feature a specialty Swiss Comfort Bed, a lounge chair with smooth curvy lines and a round ottoman, a 37” high-definition split screen plasma television and a frameless glass shower stall. The overall organic feeling of the rooms is created with such details as a dramatic, full-height upholstered headboard, a custom ribbon carpet design and photo art floating in an acrylic panel above the desk. To further accommodate the hotel’s large number of business travelers, the rooms will also include oversized executive desks with spacious workspaces, mini-bars and state-of-the-art, contemporary ergonomic chairs.
“The new rooms have been designed to make sure the overall needs of the guest are met, while maintaining the Swissôtel’s reputation of high-quality offerings that their guests have become accustomed to,” said Swisher.
In addition, each room will provide a technology docking center, jack pack, which provides one convenient location for guests to utilize a variety of media devices simultaneously including laptop, MP3 player, DVD and game console. The new rooms will also feature personalized phones that allow guest to program their personal phone number to the room.
The upgrade will also feature the addition of an iBAHN NextConnect (SM), an Ethernet system featuring ground-breaking technology for Tut Systems. The system leverages old wiring to provide quality high-speed internet access that can support present and future bandwidth-intensive applications for guests. The new system is equipped with a DS3, which is equivalent to 28 T1 lines with virtual local area network capabilities for meetings. iBAHN NextConnect also supplies quad-play, the convergence of video, voice data and wireless applications over the Internet
The announcement of the room renovations comes on the heels of Swissôtel Chicago’s recent announcement of its $47 million meeting and conference expansion plan, comprised of 50,000 square feet of meeting space, including a 15,000 square foot, state-of-the-art ballroom.
“This expansion allows Swissôtel to continue its significant presence within the luxury hospitality industry in the United States,” added Klein.
Room upgrades are set to be completed in April 2008, while the new meeting space will open June 2009. The ballroom and additional guest rooms will be completed in the fourth quarter of 2009.
